Daegu City Boys and Girls Choir The Boys and Girls Choir is very good.  When they perform they usually do a mix of English, other foreign language and Korean numbers.  They invite members of other Boys and Girls choirs to join them, and sometimes children's dance groups.  There is sometimes choreography to go with the songs.  The shows are not boring, you do not spend your entire time watching the same group of cute kids stand and sway slightly as they sing.

Daegu City Dance Company

The Daegu City Dance Troupe is a Modern Dance Company.  Their director and head choreographer is world famous and I cannot for the life of me think of why she decided to come here, nor have I asked.  Perhaps this is her hometown, perhaps she got stressed trying to keeping ahead in the international circuit.  But she dances like a goddess and is incredibly creative.  Her troupe, even when they  dance their own choreography, not hers, is fantastic, on a par with or above anything I have seen anywhere in the world.  The big performances (43rd and 44th) will be spectacular, the rest will also be good.   Dates of these shows changed last year from the beginning of the year schedule, so please check carefully on this months culture calendar before you head out to see a show.

Daegu City Traditional Orchestra  Before leaving Korea you should see at least one traditional music performance.  The shows that happen here are not the farmer's band fast paced dancing type, these look more like Western orchestras, but with instruments we don't use in the West.  The music is often slow, but each concert tries hard to keep your attention by including slow numbers, guest performers, singers, dances and even once a movie which they played along with (live soundtrack!).

The Traditional Music Orchestra

A troupe of dancers (Korean Traditional) often perform one or two acts each time the Traditional Orchestra performs.  They are well worth watching.   Fan dances are performed often, but other dances, some slow and some fast are also performed.

Daegu City Orchestra (Western Classical Music) I rarely miss a show by the Daegu City Orchestra.  I find them to be very satisfying, if not the best I've ever heard, they certainly don't grate on my ears.  Their performances are professional and high quality, their soloists, though not the sort you have to pay too much money for, are still quite talented.  They always have a soloist, and often a guest conductor as well.  They play several pieces per show, generally, though occasionally they'll play through something like Beethoven's 9th from start to finish.    A normal show is one piece the normal person could hum start to finish, two pieces you know but not that well, and one piece that is sort of obscure.   They almost always play a short encore.
